(it doesn't have the 6550's so must be from 67-68) that still sounds like the day I bought it 38-39 years ago. |

I have a Sunn Sonaro. Looks like it's based on the same chassis as a 200s & Sorado. The amp has 2 6550's for tubes. Volume on this amp doesn't really get going until around 6-8 on the dial. While increasing treble , the low end bass density seems to be cut. I was wondering if these were characteristics to this amp
thanks

hi di and rich,
are you okay? I thought of you last week with the flooding, but I was not at work to write to you. I'm hoping that you are both okay and that you didn't have any water damage. Trust that Rich has made it through his operation. Di, let me know how you're doing. I'll be back at work tomorrow and in touch with email. Can you please send me your home mailing address? Marcus has a thank you note that he'd like to send to you.
By the way, I love the photos on this website! And, the song lyrics are nice, too - very centering. Talk to you later,
love kathy may |

Hi all! I just bought a used Sunn Model T amp, serial #38648. Can anyone tell me the year made? It has 6L6 tubes instead of 6550's. What difference will that make?
Thanks,
Lanice |

Back in '70 or 71', I went to London with my friend Nino Smeraldi to London, on a shopping spree for guitars and amps that were unavailable in Italy where I lived back then.
Lo & behold, we're at the Sound City shop and there was some Sunn equipment we were told came from JHE leftovers. I bought a nice guitar, but Nino acquired a Sunn Coliseum Lead stack, a head and two 4x12" cbas. It took a couple of weeks to have it sent over to Venice, Italy, but well worth the wait.
Nino and I had a band together at that point, and also had quite a bit of equipment. Nino a Marshall 100W double stack and I had a Sound City 120W double stack. We also had a Marshall 50W half-stack and a raging AC30 and then spent a whole lot of time testing everything, making comparisons, etc.
I loved the sound of the Sunn - huge, but very breezy. You could play big ringing chords, tweak sounds endlessly with that ultra-performing EQ! At some point, it conked out... after opening the head to reveal the innards, we found that a coin had somehow got into the amp, landing on the circuit board! After removing the object, we plugged the amp in again - and... it worked as if nothing had happened. Sunn had devised a very clever circuit-breaker to cope with such an unexpected situation. Very cool, as we were up in the Austrian mountains very far away from anyone able to repair amps.
Right now, I certainly wish I had one of those. That amp was a tranny - nowdays not regarded as anything at all, as musicians go retro in a tube way... I other amps had sounded just as great as that tranny Sunn, tubes would have been out of the window by now...
All the best, Claes Cornelius - guitaris in a number of bands, studio sessions and at Mega Records from day 1 'til it was sold off.

Rich, I saw Steve's email to you..I was at his shop today and gave him your site info. Long way from Accordian Mart... I'm hoping to get some info from you on that Tele Plus you got for me 10 yrs. ago (my God!). I can't find anything on it and I would like to sell it for a reasonable price. The ser# puts in in the 1995-96 range and it has the 50th Anniversary sticker. This was the Japanese made guitar. Not that I don't love the instrument, but I'm playing other stuff now and I want it being played by someone. Talk to you soon hopefully, love to all. Big Al |

First started using Sunn 200S cabinet with a Fender Dual Showman amp in the late 60s. I added another 200S cabinet when I bought an SVT in '69. One of my all time favorite rigs: 300 tube watts and 4 JBL D-140s! Played a 300T with two single JBL E-140 Cabaret cabinets until about two years ago. I wish I still had at least one 200S cabinet today. |

Hi, Rich!
I figured the words "Sunn" on the bass forum of FDP would get your attention! Thanks for the very kind words. It's truly humbling to have you say those things considering your contributions there- and so many others. .
It's been a while since I've visited the site. So much more than the music stuff here is appealing to me.
Continued peace to you, brother!

Hi, I recently bought a 2x12 sunn stagemaster. It has 2 dials on the right hand side which go from 1 w to 120w. Could you tell me a little more about this amp . I am just starting to learn to play and love the group Sunn and people have told me Sunn amps were the best. Thanks. |

Your site is out of sight. Keep on sending these beautiful messages of inspiration, Mr. Briere. Our musical tatses are very similar. I bought a '68 Hofner (right handed) bass in '78 while I was in high school...and learned many of my licks from McCartney. It sounds so smooth through the Sunn 200S! Be well. Enjoy life.
Sincerely, Dan Gerstenlauer |

Rich,
How have you been? I ran across the NHS site and followed the links and wound up here. It's been a long time gone, with a lot of stories to tell, for both of us, I'm sure. I'm still playing, as I see you are, too. I moved to Northwest Vermont thirty odd years ago and still love it here. I've wasted too much time already this morning so I will say "til next time" for now. Don't you just love the 'net?
Regards,
Kent |
